Residents of Cranleigh who are currently referred to Frimley Park Hospital for specialist services are awaiting the announcement of the preferred location for a new state of the art replacement hospital.

For many, the journey to Frimley Park — around 25 miles from Cranleigh — can be time-consuming and challenging, particularly for those attending frequent appointments or relying on public transport.

The new hospital is being built as part of a national New Hospital Programme and in January 2025 the government committed to investing over £1.5 billion on the project. While the exact location for the 800-bed hospital is yet to be announced, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed it is only looking at sites within five miles of the existing hospital.

Health leaders have said the new hospital will ‘play a central role in enhancing health services across community settings and at home’. The Friends of Cranleigh Village Hospital hope the new hospital will be an opportunity to bring essential healthcare that bit nearer to home for Cranleigh people.
