Exciting plans for healthcare in Cranleigh were announced at Cranleigh Hospital League of Friends’ AGM on Wednesday (26 November).

The meeting began with an interesting talk by guest speaker Dr Cate Seton-Jones from Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. The Hospice receive an annual grant from the Friends of £30,000 which helps to provide services and at home support for people in and around Cranleigh who need end-of-life care. Dr Seton-Jones spoke about the work of the Hospice and their new state of the art Centre which opens in Farnham in March 2026.

Later in the AGM, Chairman, Dr Mike Bundy updated guests on the Friends’ achievements over the past 12 months and what they have been doing to improve access to healthcare locally and at Cranleigh Village Hospital.

Dr Bundy hinted at some exciting plans for 2026 including the launch of a fundraising campaign to bring the disused area of the hospital back into use. He said: “The Friends are in advanced discussions with the Royal Surrey and so far, we have secured agreement that their one and only DEXA bone scanner will be sited at Cranleigh Hospital. This is a vital piece of equipment for assessing risk of osteoporosis not only in post-menopausal women but also in cancer patients who have received chemotherapy.”

Dr Bundy went on to explain that two other services are also planned and that more detail will follow in the new year.

Over the past year, guests heard how the Friends have been active in improving accessibility to defibrillators in Cranleigh. Trustee Steve Shutts has been the driving force behind the campaign and has been instrumental in securing new defibrillators for Park Mead and the Baptist Church. This brings the total number of publicly accessible defibrillators up to 19.

2026 promises to be a significant year for healthcare in Cranleigh. If you would like to be the first to know about our plans or you would like to join us in helping influence and improve healthcare in Cranleigh, please email us at hello@friendsofcvh.org.
