The Friends of Cranleigh Village Hospital are delighted to share the government’s recent announcement that the Hospital is set to receive a new state-of-the-art DEXA bone scanner.

This follows discussions initiated by the Friends with the Royal Surrey County Hospital, who manage Cranleigh Hospital, about utilising a disused area of the hospital to expand healthcare services for local people.

As part of their ongoing mission to keep healthcare services local, the Friends have offered to fund the refurbishment of the space, which has paved the way for this opportunity. A feasibility study is now underway, carried out by the Royal Surrey and their architect, to assess the practical aspects of the project, including room sizes, electrical requirements, safety considerations, and other logistical questions. Results of this study are expected in June.

Dr Mike Bundy, Chairman of Cranleigh Hospital League of Friends says: “Currently, the nearest NHS-owned DEXA scanner is in Redhill so having a scanner here at Cranleigh will be a huge benefit to the community. We look forward to receiving the results of the feasibility study and learning more about what’s involved in bringing this project to fruition.”

The DEXA scanner, which helps in the early diagnosis of osteoporosis and other conditions, will be a valuable addition to the services offered at Cranleigh Hospital which include x-rays and ultrasound, physiotherapy, podiatry, a maternity hub, specialist clinics and more.

Patients wishing to be referred to Cranleigh Village Hospital should speak with their GP. Anybody who would like to make a donation towards the refurbishment project can do so via the Friends’ secure donations page.
