A grant from Cranleigh Hospital League of Friends has enabled a disused space at Cranleigh Village Hospital to be brought back into use for the benefit of local people’s health.

The room, which used to be part of the old day hospital, has been fully refurbished to bring it up to the high standards required by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Dr Mike Bundy, Chairman of Cranleigh Hospital League of Friends says: “Last year, we identified a need for more treatment space at the hospital. With our promise to donate £28,000 to the refurbishment cost, we were able to persuade the Royal Surrey hospital to support the project and bring the space up to modern day standards.”

Since opening, the multifunction room has been put to good use and is now the base for a falls and frailty programme, the speech and language team and the sleep apnoea clinics. Thanks to an additional grant from the Cranleigh Hospital League of Friends, the physiotherapy service has been able to buy new treatment couches which means they are equipped to treat more people.”

Dr Bundy adds: “By donating these grants, the Friends’ are fulfilling their mission to ensure the best possible healthcare for our community while keeping services close to home. In time, I am sure that even more services will choose to run clinics and programmes from this new room which will make healthcare services even more accessible for Cranleigh people.”

Anybody wishing to be treated at Cranleigh should ask their GP for a referral.
