A donation by the Cranleigh Hospital League of Friends is helping to keep a highly valued service on the road.

After hearing that Waverley hoppa Community Transport was raising funds to keep the Cranleigh Hospital hoppa service running for a second year, the Friends were quick to help out with a donation of £5,000.

Speaking on behalf of Cranleigh Hospital League of Friends, Dr Mike Bundy said: “We are all about securing the best possible healthcare for our community while keeping services close to home. That said most people still need some form of transport to get them to the centre of Cranleigh and this is where the Hospital hoppa comes into its own.

“Hospital hoppa picks up passengers from their front door and drops them off at the entrance to Cranleigh Village Hospital or the medical centre and, for those occasions when an appointment is at the Royal Surrey, hoppa can take customers there too. It is an excellent service which removes many of the stresses of travelling by car.”

Some of the services offered at Cranleigh Village Hospital include X-rays and ultrasound, blood tests, podiatry, physiotherapy, antenatal and postnatal care, regular consultant clinics such as cardiology, ophthalmology and respiratory medicine, and nurse specialist clinics for a variety of conditions. To be seen locally, patients need a referral from their GP.

To start using the Hospital hoppa service, patients will first need to register by calling hoppa on 01428 681701 or visiting www.hoppa.org.uk. Hospital hoppa costs £7.50 each way and £2.50 each way for carers/companions.
